Franklin Williams

Biography

Franklin Williams was born in Ogden, Utah in 1940. He received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Painting from the California College of Arts  and Crafts in Oakland.  He currently teaches at the San Francisco Art Institute and at the California College of Arts and Crafts. He has also taught at the Oxford University Ruskin School of Drawing and Painting in Oxford, England and in Wales and has been a visiting artist at the Chicago Art Institute, the Charles Stewart Mott College, and the AICA New York Studio. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and England and is included in many prestigious collections including the Oakland Art Museum, the Corcoran Museum, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. In 1997, his book of poetry and art work entitled Soft as Cotton, Centered and Hard was published. His most recent solo exhibitions have been held at Lizabeth Oliveria Gallery in Oakland (2000); Stoa Gallery in Petaluma (1997) and Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art in Logan, Utah (1997).
